Marilyn Field is awarded the St Etheldreda Medal

Marilyn Field is awarded the St Etheldreda medal
Ely 3Each year, the Etheldreda Medal is awarded to people across the Diocese whose service to the community is both ‘generous’ and ‘outstanding’. For many people this will be about the duration and persistence of their good works, for others it may relate to a short but extraordinary act of kindness or course of conduct.
Marilyn Field from Burrough Green, was awarded the St Etheldreda medal after being nominated by Mr Archer and was it was presented to her by Bishopn Stephen at Ely Cathedral. Marilyn was described in her nomination as a thoughtful, resourceful and emotionally intelligent person who wants to make a difference for those in need. Marilyn has been at the heart of the community at Burrough Green since she moved there 33 years ago. Her service to the community centres around Burrough Green Primary School - from Parent Helper to Foundation Governor. By building upon the links between the school and the parish church, Marilyn has contributed significantly to the school’s Outstanding rating from the Diocesan Education assessors. But beyond the school, Marilyn has been the driving force behind the Village Archive, preserving and documenting important records which form the core of knowledge about the historic settlement of Burrough Green. Marilyn has also been quietly supporting several elderly neighbours who would struggle to maintain their independence without her daily visits. Congratulations!
